3. GAUDINIAN NEWS
- 100TH ANNIVERSARY
OF THE RESTORATION OF THE MALLORCA CATHEDRAL
Last December 8th 2004, the Seo de Mallorca
celebrated the centenary of its restoration realised by Antoni
Gaudí. The works started in 1904, assigned by bishop Campins,
and continued until 1914. Gaudí's genius was able to surpass
the critical voices and the architect remodelled some aspects
of the Cathedral, which had been built in the 14th Century under
the authority of Jaume II, first king of Mallorca.
M. Jujol, architect and Gaudí's collaborator, also participated
in the restoration of the Cathedral.

5. OUR MEMBERS' CONTRIBUTIONS
Our member Josep Ors Llenares has sent us some
images of the scale model made of the Sagrada Familia made by his father.
6. COURSE: “LEARNING ABOUT GAUDÍ”
The Gaudí & Barcelona Club and the Real Cátedra Gaudí reintroduce
the second edition of the initiation course “Learning about Gaudí”; an exclusive
course of 12 lessons describing the life and work of Gaudí, as from his
childhood to the construction of the Sagrada Familia, the influences, the construction
methods, the unrealized projects…
“Learning about Gaudí” is a total distance course. If you subscribe, you
will receive a lesson by e-mail every month. You will have a tutor at your disposition
for all your questions about the lessons.
In order to obtain the final certificate of the course, you must present an exercise
after each lesson.

As 2005 has just started, you could help us to share the figure and work of Gaudí with

Those who knew Gaudí and dealt with him describe the architect as an intelligent
person, with a strong personality, imagination and genius, although shy and introvert.
As a child, without hiding from his schoolmates, he carefully protected his individuality
and when he had a bright idea, nobody could make him change it our derive his attention
There's this woman from Reus who had known Gaudí as a child. Many years
later, when she visited Barcelona and saw Sagrada Familia for the first time, she
exclaimed “Oh my god, he does exactly the same as he did when he was a child!!”
