2. II GAUDÍ PRIZE OF POETRY AND SHORT NARRATIVE 2004
In our desire to dynamise culture and to divulge the figure and work of Antoni Gaudí,
the Internet Gaudí & Barcelona Club Association and the Sagrada Familia Temple
Building Committee convoke the Gaudí Prize of Poetry and Short Narrative 2004.
After the success got the last year, we cheer you up to take part in this litterary contest,
which sentence will be pronounced in the feast of Saint George, the Day of the Book, in
the Sagrada Familia Temple
Hurry up!: you can present your work until the 31st of March!!!

3. THE LEARNING ABOUT GAUDÍ COURSE
Haven’t you signed for the “Learning about Gaudí course yet”???
Many members signed on for the course last year and they are receiving the lessons. With
this totally at a distance course, you have also now the opportunity to learn more about
the architect of the Sagrada Familia and his works.
Given the success got by the course, we make a new appeal so as all the admirers of the
gaudinian work may approach in a rigorous way to this genial architect.

of the evolution of the Temple designed by Gaudí, with a text by Jordi Bonet,
the leading architect of the works, and new photographs.

from his last visit to Barcelona. It also includes a small enigma... can you solve
it?
Edwin Williams celebrated his birthday in Barcelona. In you can see some
of the photos he took in his trip. By the way, his birthday coincides with the one
of Mickey Mouse! Congratulations, Edwin!!
Pere Canovas, the author of the stained glass windows of the Mallorca Cathedral
and those of the Colonia Güell Crypt, he sent us his very personal
greeting for the Year 2004

8. GAUDÍ TOURS – QUALITY CULTURAL TOURISM
As you already know, we have formalized the Gaudí Tours travel agency, because
of the numerous petitions from our members, which asked us for organised visits to the
works by Gaudí, more often from time to time.
Specialised in cultural tourism, we presented in the International Fair of Tourism in
Madrid (FITUR 2004) last week, one of the most important one of the sector, which had
a representation of 170 countries and regions, 11.028 exhibitors and nearly 100.000 visitors.

9. GAUDINIAN NEWS:
The celebration of the 100th aniversary of the Mallorca Cathedral restoration
This year 2004 reaches the century of the Mallorca Cathedral restoration carried out
by Gaudí. After a visit to Barcelona, the bishop of Mallorca, Pere Campins, commisioned
the architect the restoration works. In the coming Gaudí News we will explain some
intimacies of the intervention del genius in the largest of the Balearic islands...

10. LINKS OF INTEREST
THE POLEMIC ON THE COLONIA GÜELL CRYPT GOES ON
J.L González and A. Casals, architects belonging to the “Servei de Patrimoni
Arquitectònic Local” from the Deputation of Barcelona” and both responsible
of the restoration of the Colonia Güell crypt, explain in this website the reasons
of his intervention in this work by Gaudí and they also defend themselves from
the criticism they have received:

11. CURIOSITIES: TWO NEW AUTOGRAPHS OF GAUDÍ
DISCOVERED
Professor Joan Bassegoda, the curator of the Royal Gaudí Chair, has discovered
two new autographs of Gaudí, in two collective letters, which were signed in 1882.
Gaudí, at that time, was 30 years old and his genius was already starting to be
guessed by means of his very personal design of the streetlamps for the Municipality of
Barcelona (1878) and the Co-operative “La Obrera Mataronense” (1878-1883),
among other works.
The autographs now discovered reveal that the architect signed as Antonio Gaudí
–he would later sign either as Anton or as Antoni.
12. THE SIMBOLOGY IN THE SAGRADA FAMILIA
THE LAMB:
It portrays the death of Jesus in the cross, as a victim, to redeem our sins. Saint John
the Baptist called Jesus as “the lamb of God, which removes the sin of the world.”
It is located in the Passion Façade.
